President Donald Trump said his administration is working on a temporary permit that would be issued to immigrants working on farms and in the tourism industry, allowing employers greater control.

“I’m on both sides of this issue. I’m the strongest person on immigration that’s ever existed, but I’m also the strongest person on farmers that’s ever existed,” Trump said, adding that he was including “hotels and you know, places where people work,” in an interview that aired Sunday on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“We’re going to work out the law so that we can create a kind of temporary pass where people pay taxes, where the farmer can have a little bit of control, instead of you coming in and taking everyone with you,” the president added.

“The farmer knows. He’s not going to hire a killer,” Trump said, noting that not allowing some exemptions could “end up destroying a farmer because we take away all the people. It’s a problem.”

Trump said this month that farmers and those in the hospitality and tourism industries had told him that the administration’s immigration policy “is taking away very good, long-time workers, with these jobs being almost impossible to replace,” he wrote in a post on Truth.

“We must protect our farmers, but get the CRIMINALS OUT of the U.S. Change is coming!” Trump added in the social media post.
