Trump Chooses Canada-Trolling Influencer as U.S. Tourism Envoy

The Australian-born naturalized U.S. citizen loves steaks, the Alpha Male lifestyle, and Hooters.

Tourism to the United States has been struggling for many months, and the Trump administration has appointed a special envoy to spread the word about American exceptionalism. Right-wing influencer Nick Adams took the position on March 17 as senior advisor and special presidential envoy for American tourism, exceptionalism, and values, the State Department noted on its website.

In a post announcing his new role, Adams said, “With America 250, the FIFA World Cup, and the Olympics coming up, the world needs to be reminded of all we have to offer. I will be a tireless spokesman for American greatness, at home and abroad.”

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said in a statement, “Nick Adams is an America First patriot who will represent our country well as we celebrate our Nation’s 250th anniversary of independence, and we look forward to working with him to further showcase and advance America’s excellence across the world stage.”

Adams was born and raised in Australia and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2021. He has not held any diplomatic positions. Adams served as a deputy mayor in Australia but was suspended from the right-wing Liberal Party for verbally abusing a television journalist. The party accused him of neglecting his duties to conduct seminars in the U.S. and said his statements were likely to embarrass the party.

The self-proclaimed Alpha Male is an unconventional choice to promote the U.S. abroad. On social media, he is known for his colorful personality and often mentions his love for steaks and the restaurant chain Hooters. His hypermasculine posts have earned him a fanbase in the manosphere. He is also a vocal and relentless supporter of President Donald Trump, who has endorsed Adams’ books. His tweets often call Trump the greatest U.S. president and America’s spiritual leader, and he has claimed, “You can either love Trump or hate America.” His enthusiastic support for President Trump has endeared him to his MAGA following.

The conservative influencer promotes hypermasculinity and supports what he considers Alpha Male behavior, such as sharing a video of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., working out in jeans. Conversely, he has criticized Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance, repeatedly referencing the artist’s fashion choices and using “wearing a dress” as criticism.

With AI-generated photos and random anecdotes, Adams’ account might seem like a parody (a suspicion echoed by Reddit). However, Adams is well known as an internet troll.

He has repeatedly posted about Hooters and professed his love for women’s breasts online, though he has done so less frequently recently. Here’s a profound tweet from him from 2023: “I appreciate a nice pair of boobs and I’m not going to apologize for it.”

If that is not enough to make things awkward, Adams’ prior comments about other countries may not help win back international tourists. In 2024, he announced plans to become the first governor of the 51st state of Canada. He has written extensively in support of Trump’s policy proposals regarding Canada, which is one reason Canadians have looked beyond the U.S. for travel. To further complicate his international standing, in January, he posted, “Greenland is the United States.”

Last year, President Trump nominated him for the role of ambassador to Malaysia. The Muslim-majority country protested the nomination because of his Islamophobic views. Adams once posted that he got a waitress fired for wearing a “Free Palestine” pin and wrote on X, “If you don’t stand with Israel, you stand with terrorists!” Malaysians, who largely sympathize with Palestinians, did not overlook his comments. He was ultimately dropped as the ambassador nominee.
