Canadians and visitors from Europe and further afield are not visiting the US for even border trips because of the implications of Donald Trump’s tariffs
Donald Trump’s own family say the president has been caught off-guard and are ‘blindsided’ by the reaction to his controversial trade tariffs.
Mary Trump, Donald’s niece (who regularly posts videos on YouTube criticizing her uncle), said his own policies are having a serious effect on the tourism industry in the US. The introduction of tariffs she says are affecting the number of visitors who would normally visit the States. This comes amid claims that Las Vegas’ casinos are ’empty’, thanks to Trump’s policies.
People who would usually travel from destinations from locations such as Canada and Europe to locations such as Florida, Las Vegas and New England. But the president’s niece says his policies are having an adverse effect on visitor numbers and in turn, impacting the US economy.

Mary, a critic of his business and political career during his time in office again took to video sharing site YouTube to say he was ‘blindsided’ by the reaction to his tariffs.
She said: “Donald has sworn time and time again that he’ll boost American business and break down costs.
“But Canadian tourists have stopped coming to America, Seven months into the Trump regime, tourism is tagging, the border is emptier and more hostile than ever and tariffs are hitting the very industry where tourism matters most.”
Her video titled ‘Trump BLINDSIDED as Canadian Boycott SPREADS’ argues visitors are choosing not to come to the US because of the expense.
Tariffs are reportedly expected to cost the average American an additional $2400 a year with everyday items such as food, drink and clothing expected to rise after they were introduced.
But the reaction globally has not been good and the financial impact levies will have on the US will be felt at home. But the larger picture suggests it will also have an effect on international tourism as prices spiral in the US.
Mary Trump Media continues and says none of the examples are good news. She said: “Correct me if I’m wrong, but none of that sounds good. Prices are up and tourism and all the businesses that rely on tourism, are down.
“Even Canadian citizens who used to flock across the border for back to school shopping are staying away.
“I never thought I’d hear a restaurant owner, of all people, say that they did better business during a global pandemic than they are doing now as a direct result of Donald’s tariffs, but this is our reality.”
The Financial Times reported Trump will “substantially” raise tariffs on imports from India because of Russian oil purchases. It came after India failed to reach an agreement with the White House to lower levies on its exports to the US unlike other countries such as the European Union
The US president also wanted to stop Russia’s ability to finance the war in Ukraine as he contimued to try and seek a conflict settlement between Moscow and Kyiv.
